Why Should You Add a Green Drink to Your Diet?

Not everyone takes a green drink for the same reason. And to argue that there is only one formula or “set of criteria” that defines a good green drink is completely absurd. The fact is, there are many reasons for adding a green drink to your food choices and each has its advantages. This article discusses seven reasons for adding a green drink to your diet; see which of them is right for you...

Review: Greens Pak

Greens Pak offers a fairly typical mixture of greens (grasses and spirulina), veggie powders (carrot, broccoli, spinach juices) and special herbs (in this case grouped into an “antioxidant blend” including milk thistle, red beet root and aloe vera leaf powders). There are good amounts of all of these blends and a good amount of filler, which is Lecithin in this case. The product comes in handy, single-serving packs, but the serving size is only 7.5 grams, about half of what other brands suggest.

Review: Emerald Balance

I like the formulation of this product and feel it’s an excellent value for the price. It has very little filler, mostly apple fiber and pectin, flaxseed meal, and rice bran, but the bulk of this formula is greens and fruits. Read our complete review with detailed ingredients information and comparisons with other products on the market.

Review: Amazing Grass Green Superfood

Amazing Grass is not one of the most robust formulas on the market. It consists mostly of grasses, which are good, but should not dominate a green drink mixture because they don’t offer as much nutrition as some other botanicals. Get a complete review here with detailed ingredients and comparisons with other products.

Review: Green Vibrance

Green Vibrance is an excellent formulation of spirulina, grasses and vegetable powders and it includes a nice selection of “extra botanicals” including bee pollen, ginko biloba, green tea extract, and Astragalus. Check out this review for more information, pros and cons, and comparisons with other green drinks on the market.

All About Green Drinks, SuperFood Supplements

green foodsA good green drink is made from freeze-dried plants and vegetables (and often fruit or fruit juices) and is actually a food product — not a supplement, like a vitamin or mineral supplement. Green drinks are basically food in concentrated, powdered form. The best ones use organic ingredients and combine a variety of food sources. This article gives you a good first-look at the booming green drink market and helps you make sense of the products and ingredients in them.

Sources of Spirulina, the Good and the Bad

spirulinaThe health benefits of spirulina were not discovered at Klamath Lake in Oregon, but some of the first companies to offer spirulina products, under the name of “Blue Green Algae” came from this unique location. That was back in the late 70s and early 80s. Since then, companies have been raided by the FDA for “false claims” and other companies have sprouted up around the edge of the lake. Now there are four or five companies wild harvesting the algae from the lake for sale directly to consumers, through health food stores, or through network marketing structures.

Urucum: More Than a Food Coloring

Urucum, or Bixa orellana, is known internationally as Annatto, but to me it’s very much a Brazilian herb and I’ve known about it since I was a child. The Urucum tree grows to as high as six meters (20 feet) and produces a spiny, copper-colored fruit. Inside this fruit are red seeds that are used principally for their color.
